National Bank of Kenya (NBK) has marked a significant milestone in its turnaround journey, posting impressive financial results for the year ended 31 December 2025, just months after its integration into Access Bank PLC.

The bank reported profit before tax of KShs 2.91 billion, a 178% increase from 2024, while profit after tax rose 125% to KShs 2.39 billion. Net interest income grew to KShs 10.3 billion, supported by cost efficiencies, while operating expenses were reduced to KShs 8.49 billion. Asset quality also strengthened, with provisions for credit losses declining 37% to KShs 1.5 billion.

George Odhiambo, Managing Director of NBK, noted, “These results reflect the successful execution of our turnaround priorities. Beyond stabilizing the bank, we are now focused on accelerating growth and delivering innovative solutions that benefit our customers and communities.”

NBK’s balance sheet shows significant improvements, with customer deposits rising to KShs 106 billion and total equity increasing to KShs 17 billion. The bank has adopted a more risk-adjusted lending strategy, reflected in net loans of KShs 51 billion, while strengthening capital ratios and regulatory compliance.

Beyond financial performance, NBK launched the W Initiative in 2025, a transformative program designed to empower women entrepreneurs and professionals. The initiative provides tailored financial solutions, advisory services, and access to strategic networks, positioning women-led businesses for long-term growth and driving sustainable economic development across Kenya.

Looking ahead, NBK plans to leverage its strengthened balance sheet and Access Bank integration to deepen market presence, enhance digital banking, diversify lending portfolios, and continue delivering value to businesses, households, and the wider economy.

This year’s results highlight not just strong financial performance but also the bank’s commitment to transformation, inclusion, and long-term sustainable growth.
