Kenya is set to strengthen its position as Africa’s premier gastronomy destination following a strategic partnership between the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and EatOut Africa aimed at promoting unique culinary experiences across the country.

The partnership seeks to enhance Kenya’s tourism offering by integrating culinary discovery into the broader visitor experience while leveraging technology and digital platforms to improve how travellers explore, plan, and experience the destination.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, KTB Chief Executive Officer June Chepkemei said the collaboration comes at a time when destinations around the world are competing to attract travellers seeking immersive and authentic experiences.

“As a destination, we have been intentionally expanding the Magical Kenya experience beyond traditional tourism offerings by integrating culture, creativity, wellness, adventure, and now culinary discovery into our destination identity,” said Chepkemei.

“This partnership with EatOut Africa is especially important because it responds to how modern travellers make decisions today. Visitors no longer wait until arrival to decide where to dine or what experiences to enjoy. They research online, compare reviews, and explore digital content before making travel choices,” she added.

The collaboration comes as KTB intensifies efforts to improve customer experience in an increasingly digital travel environment, where visitors make destination choices, bookings, and activity decisions online before travelling.

Chepkemei noted that incorporating technology and digital solutions into tourism marketing and visitor engagement has become essential to ensuring Kenya remains responsive to evolving traveller behaviour.

“Modern travellers want more than just a seat at a restaurant; they want to know the story behind their food. By partnering with EatOut, we are moving beyond traditional dining to highlight our incredible farm-to-table journey. Tea and coffee are among Kenya’s most celebrated exports, and this partnership will place them at the forefront of our tourism strategy, allowing visitors to experience their origins firsthand,” she said.

EatOut Africa, one of Kenya’s leading food and restaurant discovery platforms, connects millions of diners with curated hospitality and culinary experiences across the country. The platform has become a key digital tool for restaurant discovery, reservations, reviews, and customer engagement, helping shape dining choices while boosting visibility for hospitality businesses.

The partnership will focus on curating and promoting authentic culinary experiences, including tea farm and coffee roastery tours, interactive cooking classes led by local culinary experts, chef’s table experiences, and curated food adventures.

Visitors will also have opportunities to enjoy experiences such as picnics at Nairobi National Park, dhow dining experiences in Mombasa, and guided street food tours exploring Nairobi’s vibrant culinary culture.

EatOut Africa General Manager Lorenze said the partnership will unlock new opportunities within Kenya’s hospitality and tourism sectors.

“We currently work with some of the best restaurants in Nairobi, and over the years our platform has helped millions of diners discover and book restaurants across the city. This partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board will allow us to extend our offerings to operators providing unique culinary experiences while showcasing the very best of Kenya’s growing food scene,” he said.

Globally, culinary tourism continues to gain momentum as travellers increasingly seek authentic, experience-driven journeys. The partnership positions Kenya to capitalize on this growth by making its culinary offerings more structured, discoverable, and accessible through digital platforms.

The curated culinary experiences will be available to both local and international tourists through the Magical Kenya culinary tourism platform.
