OPPO Kenya has announced a new partnership with mobile financing firm MOGO Kenya to introduce flexible, installment-based payment plans for smartphone purchases, aiming to lower the barriers to device ownership in a market where affordability remains a key challenge.
Announced today, the collaboration will see OPPO devices integrated into MOGO’s “lipa mdogo mdogo” financing framework, allowing customers to acquire smartphones through structured payment plans rather than full upfront payments.
The move is designed to broaden access to OPPO’s device portfolio, particularly for price-sensitive consumers and underserved segments where smartphone penetration, while growing, still faces affordability hurdles.
With an estimated 42 million smartphone users in Kenya and demand continuing to climb, the partnership targets what both companies describe as a persistent affordability gap—exacerbated in recent years by rising device costs.
By embedding MOGO’s financing options within OPPO’s retail network, customers at participating outlets will be able to select payment plans aligned with their income cycles.
The initiative supports three core objectives, according to a joint statement from the companies: accelerating digital inclusion, expanding access to OPPO’s technology features, and reinforcing a shared commitment to tech empowerment.
Fredrique Achieng, PR Manager at OPPO Kenya’s authorized distributor, framed the collaboration as part of the company’s broader mission to democratize technology access. “Our mission goes beyond delivering innovative devices; we are committed to ensuring that more Kenyans can access and benefit from the opportunities that digital connectivity provides,” Achieng said. “Partnering with MOGO allows us to remove affordability barriers and extend the reach of OPPO technology.”
Beyond consumer access, the partnership is expected to bolster OPPO’s retail footprint by driving foot traffic and conversion rates among shoppers seeking alternative payment structures.
Fred Muoka, Head of Sales for Device Financing at MOGO Kenya, emphasized the economic role smartphones now play across the country. “From mobile money and online selling to content creation and customer engagement, millions of Kenyans depend on their phones to earn a living,” Muoka noted. “Yet affordability remains a major barrier, especially as device prices have risen. Flexible financing models are critical. Through this partnership, we are making quality smartphones more accessible and supporting greater economic participation.”
