BrighterMonday Kenya and the County Government of Machakos have combined efforts to establish a collaborative framework towards operationalisation of a Job Centre targeting work placements under the Gen-Kazi program.

The Job Centre will serve as a hub for connecting job seekers with employment opportunities, offering career guidance, and facilitating employer engagement, especially for entry-level jobs. The Centre will also serve as the last mile for job seekers to attain dignified employment.

“The Job Centre aims at connecting job seekers aged 18 – 35 years with dignified and fulfilling offline employment opportunities. Additionally, BrighterMonday will support employers by providing access to a pool of pre-screened job seekers,” Penina Kimani, Country Programme Lead, BrighterMonday Kenya. “BrighterMonday Kenya and the County Government of Machakos will facilitate linkages between women, youth, graduates, interns, blue-collar, and pink-collar workers with suitable roles across the County.”

BrighterMonday is working towards strengthening partnerships with county government departments, training institutions, community groups, and employers to expand placement opportunities across the country to establish last mile job connections between job seekers and employers dignified employment.

The Job Centre also provides digital tools and resources to complement offline placements while the Job Centre data will be integrated with the broader GenKazi Monitoring and Evaluation Framework to ensure that insights gathered are translated into local practical actions.

“Employment creation, particularly among youth, is a top priority for the County Government of Machakos which aligns with Vision 2030 which emphasises on accelerating growth for job creation. We are cognizant that we need to create a conducive environment for decent work and economic growth,” said H.E Wavinya Ndeti, Governor, County Government of Machakos.

“Towards achieving this goal, the County Government has existing programmes whose purpose is to improve the business environment and creation of employment opportunities. Particularly, under the Gen-Kazi program, the County Government of Machakos will provide a physical space for the Job Centre, equipped with infrastructure to link employers on the County’s network to local talent.”

The County Government of Machakos will facilitate introductions to other State Departments relevant to youth employment interventions in the County for cross-collaborations.

The initiative is aiming at increasing employment rate for all women and men, including youth and persons with disability to enhance the overall competitiveness of the County.

The Generation Kazi program, implemented by BrighterMonday Kenya, continues to tackle these challenges by upskilling and reskilling youth aged 18 – 35, with a focus on underserved groups; 70% women, 70% non-urban youth and 10% persons with disabilities.
