The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, warmly welcomes all Kenyans and visitors to join in celebrating the Maa Cultural Week Festival — a vibrant showcase of the rich and unique heritage of the Maasai people.
The Maa Cultural Week Festival, held annually, honors the traditions, customs, and way of life of one of East Africa’s most iconic communities. This year’s edition will take place from November 4 to 9, 2025, bringing together Maasai communities from Kenya and Tanzania, as well as guests from around the world, to experience the beauty, strength, and depth of Maasai culture.
Festival Highlights Include:
Traditional Dance and Music: Enjoy the famous Adumu (jumping dance) performed by Maasai warriors and women, accompanied by rhythmic chants and drumbeats.
Art and Craft Exhibitions: Explore exquisite beadwork, leatherwork, and handmade crafts that reflect the Maasai’s deep cultural symbolism.
Cultural Fashion Show: Witness the colorful elegance of Maasai attire — from iconic shukas to beaded jewelry and ornaments representing identity and pride.
Storytelling and Oral History: Hear elders share timeless tales that capture Maasai values, myths, and their profound connection to nature.
Cultural Workshops: Take part in hands-on sessions on Maasai customs, cuisine, language, and traditions.
Environmental and Conservation Activities: Join discussions on the Maasai’s vital role in environmental stewardship and harmonious coexistence with wildlife.
Speaking ahead of the festival, CS Miano said the event is “phenomenal in boosting domestic tourism by showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.”
Beyond celebration, the Maa Cultural Week fosters cross-cultural understanding, promotes heritage preservation, and supports local economies through tourism and creative industries.
Kenya’s diverse cultures remain the heartbeat of its tourism identity — and the Maa Cultural Week proudly reminds us of this shared national heritage.
