The Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, has held a high-level consultative meeting with Ambassador Philip Thigo, the Presidential Special Envoy for Technology, to explore strategies for leveraging the potential of Kenyans abroad in driving the nation’s digital transformation.
The meeting, held in Nairobi, centered on integrating diaspora expertise into Kenya’s science, technology, and innovation ecosystem as part of efforts to position the country as a leading technology hub in Africa. The two officials underscored the importance of building structured networks that connect global Kenyan professionals with homegrown innovators to accelerate national development.
PS Njogu emphasized that the Kenyan diaspora remains a key driver of progress, not only through remittances but also through knowledge transfer, skills, and global exposure. “Our diaspora is one of Kenya’s greatest assets. Their participation in the digital economy is vital in shaping the country’s innovation agenda,” she said.
The discussions also aligned with Kenya’s Foreign Policy pillars on Diaspora Affairs and Science, Technology, and Innovation, focusing on promoting collaboration, technology exchange, and inclusive growth.
Amb. Thigo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tapping into the expertise of Kenyans abroad to boost productivity, competitiveness, and innovation capacity.
The meeting follows the Department of Diaspora Affairs’ recent recognition with the Innovation in Digital Public Service Delivery Award at the 6th Africa Public Sector Conference in Cape Town, a milestone that underscores its leadership in promoting digital inclusion and diaspora empowerment.
