The Nairobi Hospital has suspended recent tariff adjustments following consultations with insurance partners, as it sought to reassure the public of its financial stability, governance reforms, and commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare.
Speaking at a joint press briefing by the Board of Trustees and the Board of Management, Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano said the hospital remains financially strong, meeting all staff salaries, supplier obligations, and investment commitments without disruption.
He confirmed that a petition filed by creditor Opticom Kenya Ltd is being contested in court, with constructive engagement ongoing toward a resolution.
“In July, we implemented a marginal 5% average tariff adjustment following a cost analysis and benchmarking exercise. After some insurance providers suspended services, we rescinded the adjustment in mutual goodwill to prioritise patients while sustaining quality care,” Mr. Osano said.
The CEO also highlighted KSh 1.5 billion in infrastructure upgrades funded entirely from internally generated revenues, which he described as evidence of prudent financial management.
These investments include six new labour and delivery suites, a 256-slice AI-enabled CT scanner, and a state-of-the-art Cardiac Centre with East and Central Africa’s first biplane catheterisation laboratory.
“These projects are strategic investments aimed at expanding clinical capacity, improving patient outcomes, and reinforcing the hospital’s leadership in specialised care,” he added.
Board Chairman Dr. Barcley Onyambu acknowledged past governance lapses but assured the public that the current leadership is committed to accountability and long-term stability.
He welcomed the lifting of recent court-imposed restrictions, which he said had cleared the way for renewed investment in critical infrastructure and equipment.
“This is more than a legal victory; it is a turning point that strengthens our capacity to deliver on our mission,” Dr. Onyambu stated.
The Nairobi Hospital reaffirmed its focus on transparency, strong governance, and patient-centered services as it continues to position itself as a premier healthcare provider in the region.
