Kenyan alternative R&B artist Maya Amolo is done with whispering. On her new single “Look The Other Way”, released 17th July 2025, Maya doesn’t just speak her truth—she glides through it, unbothered and fully in her power.
Over a slick, bass-heavy beat crafted by her long-time producer Cap, Maya delivers sharp-tongued lyrics with the sweet ease she’s known for. But this time, the softness holds bite.
She’s confronting the smoke and mirrors of disloyal friends, backhanded compliments, and empty admiration.
The track pulses with a quiet confidence—this is not a cry for attention, but a declaration that she sees through the façades, and she’s not here for it.

“Look The Other Way is for anyone who’s ever felt watched, talked about, or underestimated—and chose to rise above it anyway,” Maya shares. “I wrote it in a moment where I felt misunderstood, and I wanted to remind myself that not every energy needs to be met.
Sometimes the real power is in choosing peace and walking away.” This single marks the third release from her forthcoming sophomore album and offers a striking preview of what’s to come: a more grounded, bolder Maya, unafraid to let the light and shadows co-exist in her music.
Since her debut with Leave Me At The Pregame in 2020, Maya has become a beacon for East Africa’s creative community and a standout voice in the global alt-R&B scene.
Her 2022 debut album Asali unpacked the sweetness and complexity of love, setting the stage for her evolution as an artist. Look The Other Way picks up where Asali left off—but with more fire, more clarity, and a head held high.
Recognised by NPR, The Native Mag, OkayAfrica, and Harmattan Rain, Maya’s momentum is undeniable. She’s participated in Spotify and COLORSxSTUDIOS’ first African writing camp, featured as Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next artist, and continues to lead with grace, vulnerability, and unmatched artistry.
With “Look The Other Way”, Maya Amolo reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is keep moving forward—without flinching.
