Global Brand Showcases Commitment to Manufacturing, Innovation, and Education in East Africa

BIC, a global leader in stationery, lighters, and shavers, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to Kenya’s economic development and job creation. During a media tour at its Kasarani-based manufacturing plant, the company spotlighted its dedication to local production, innovation, and long-term economic impact across the East African region.

The Kasarani facility serves as a strategic production center, supplying essential BIC products for both local and export markets. This manufacturing hub plays a central role in BIC’s Horizon strategy, launched in 2020, which focuses on expanding core categories by leveraging consumer insights and strengthening regional operations. Every year, the plant produces millions of units, anchoring Kenya as a key contributor to industrial output that supports trade throughout East Africa and beyond.

“Local manufacturing is at the very heart of our operations. We are immensely proud to play a significant role in strengthening regional value chains, creating meaningful employment, and delivering products that meet local needs through sustainable practices. Our Nairobi plant is far more than just a production site; it’s a strategic asset that actively supports Kenya’s industrialization goals and contributes to BIC’s global growth. Kenya remains a focal point for us at BIC with a strategic vision to the future,” said Paloma Lengema, General Manager at BIC East Africa.

BIC’s presence in the region also fuels indirect employment through its expansive supply chain and distribution network. The company works closely with local suppliers and service providers, strengthening business ecosystems and reinforcing Kenya’s industrial landscape. Since launching its subsidiary in 2019—following years of distribution via HACO Industries—BIC has created hundreds of jobs and supported numerous Kenyan households.

Beyond manufacturing, BIC East Africa continues to invest in education and social impact. Under its global Writing the Future, Together initiative, the company aims to improve learning conditions for 250 million students worldwide by 2025—and has already impacted over 200 million to date.

In Kenya, this goal comes to life through impactful campaigns such as Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Pen, which has distributed 1.5 million pens, reaching 150,000 students this year alone. Another initiative, Express Myself with My BIC Pen, has empowered over 50,000 students with opportunities for self-expression and creativity.

These education-driven programs underscore BIC East Africa’s ongoing commitment to the region—not only as a manufacturer but also as a champion of community development and sustainable growth.
