Civil Society Leader and Bunge la Mwananchi President Francis Awino has condemned the use of live bullets by anti-riot police officers.
Speaking while helping victims of the protest get transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment, Awino said, sadly, the government has opted to infiltrate peaceful protests with goons.
“Kenyans are protesting against the use of force by police officers. It’s absurd that the officers are not afraid and are even using live bullets,” he stated.
“We condemn the violence by police. The government must bring an end to this violence,” he condemned.
Awino confirmed that two of his Bunge la Mwananchi supporters who were recording the brutality by police were shot by the police.
The civil society leader has reiterated that the Kenya Kwanza government needs to stop misusing the youths, as they’ll in turn tear down the country into civil war.
According to Awino, the government should focus on giving the youths jobs and not using them to infiltrate peaceful protests.
“Let the government stop using the youths to cause violence, it’s wrong,” he said.
He added that the Deputy Inspector General of Police, KPS Eliud Lagat, should have resigned as early as last week, rather than stepping aside.
Further, Awino has urged the investigating authorities to expedite investigations into the brutal murder of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang for his family to get the justice they deserve.
He added that Kenyans shall not relent in the fight for justice.
“IPOA and the other authorities investigating the murder of Ojwang should finalize the investigations faster and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book. We shall continue to fight and ensure that justice is served,” he reiterated.
His remarks come after armed goons prowled and pounced on unsuspecting pedestrians fleeing the chaos at protest flashpoints on Moi Avenue.
Several people have been left nursing serious injuries
