Airtel Networks Kenya Limited has introduced a cutting-edge, AI-powered Spam Alert Service to protect its customers from fraudulent and unsolicited SMS messages.

The new service is automatically available to all Airtel subscribers at no extra cost, requiring no downloads or setup.

With mobile usage surging across Kenya, spam messages—from intrusive promotions to dangerous scams—have become increasingly common.

These messages often attempt to deceive users into clicking malicious links or sharing personal data.

Until now, customers have relied on third-party apps to filter such content.Airtel’s new solution leverages artificial intelligence to analyze over 250 indicators, such as message frequency and sender patterns, to identify and flag suspicious SMS content.

Without reading message content, the system classifies potential threats in real time, labeling them as “Suspected SPAM.”

The dual-layered system operates at both network and IT infrastructure levels, capable of processing over 18 million messages in just two milliseconds each.

The AI also scans for harmful URLs and cross-checks them against a live database of blacklisted links, alerting users before they interact with any dangerous content.

“Airtel is committed to delivering innovative solutions that enhance our customers’ mobile experience,” said Airtel Kenya Managing Director Ashish Malhotra.

“This AI-powered spam alert service empowers users to guard against fraud and enjoy a safer, more secure mobile environment.”

To report fraudulent activity, Airtel customers can dial *100# and select option 3, “Report Fraud.”
