The UEFA Champions League Trophy has arrived in Nairobi, marking the final stop of Heineken’s 2025 global tour aimed at honoring dedicated football fans across Asia and Africa. This month-long journey, which began in Vietnam on April 7, has seen the iconic silverware travel through Indonesia, South Africa, and Zambia before culminating in Kenya.
Accompanying the trophy is German football legend Bastian Schweinsteiger, a former Bayern Munich midfielder and 2013 UCL winner. Schweinsteiger is set to present the trophy to President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, in a ceremony attended by officials from the Ministry of Sports, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), and representatives from KWAL, part of the HEINEKEN company .
The Kenyan leg of the tour includes a series of events aimed at bringing fans closer to the Champions League experience. On Saturday, May 3, Heineken and FKF will host a friendly match featuring Kenyan football legends interacting with Schweinsteiger. Later that day, 700 fans, selected through a Heineken promotion, will have the opportunity to view the trophy up close .
Schweinsteiger expressed his admiration for Kenyan football enthusiasts, noting their passion and dedication to the sport. He emphasized the importance of self-motivation and discipline for aspiring footballers, encouraging them to dream big and aim for the highest levels of the game .
