Spotify is expanding the boundaries of music discovery with the launch of its new AI Playlist feature, now available in beta for Premium users across more than 40 global markets. The feature allows users to effortlessly generate personalized playlists using just a few words of input — from moods and genres to emojis and movie characters.
Playlists have long been central to Spotify’s experience, and the streaming giant is doubling down on that legacy by giving users a new, creative way to shape their listening journeys. Following a successful launch last year, which saw millions of playlists created by Premium users, the AI Playlist tool is designed to make finding music for any moment faster and more intuitive.
How It Works
To try the feature, users can head to the Spotify app’s search tab and type “AI Playlist.” From there, they can choose from suggested prompts or enter custom ones. The AI then generates a tailored playlist based on a mix of genres, artists, tracks, and listening history.
Users can further refine the playlist by giving feedback such as “more upbeat,” “add new releases,” or “make it moodier,” allowing for an interactive and evolving music selection experience.
Creative Prompting Encouraged
While traditional prompts like “chill indie vibes” or “morning workout mix” are effective, Spotify encourages users to get playful. Prompts like “Reggaeton for hanging out at the beach,” “Trending K-pop hits I need to know,” or even “Songs to hype me up for a football match” are all fair game. The AI also responds to unconventional inputs, including emojis, activities, and pop culture references.
This innovative feature is gradually rolling out to Spotify Premium subscribers in regions across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, with further expansion expected in the coming months.
