Netizens have been left talking after a minister made remarks directed towards school going girls that has caused a stir online.
Phophi Ramathuba, the health minister, allegedly told learners in Gwenane secondary school to close their legs and open their books while addressing the problem of early pregnancy among girls in the country.
Her sentiments have since sparked a stir online with a section of social media users expressing their fury siting that the remarks were discriminative.
What made netizens angry is that she only addressed girl only as being the source of the early pregnancy while that’s not the case. The social media users wanted the minister to also address boys and men who are responsible for this pregnancies since girls can’t make themselves pregnant.
In a defensive report, the minister said that her sentiments were perceived wrongly saying that she was only warning girls against older men who tend to destroy their future.
